What are ceramic veneers?
Ceramic veneers are ceramic sheets designed for each patient individually, which we bond to the front surface of the teeth.
They are often used to beautify a smile and are a great choice for patients who are dissatisfied with the shape, color and size of their teeth.

Veneers are mostly placed in the smile zone and it is no secret that many perfect Hollywood smiles are created precisely with veneers.
The quality of ceramic veneers
Although there are other types of veneers, such as composite, in the Apolonija Dental Clinic we install only ceramic veneers.
They have many advantages in terms of quality, appearance and durability:
- Ceramic veneers have long-lasting durability and appearance.
- Ceramic veneers for teeth do not absorb pigments from food and beverages so they will stay white for a long time.
- Ceramic veneers have a high shine and imitate the natural beauty of teeth.
What aesthetic problems do ceramic veneers solve?
Ceramic veneers can correct minor aesthetic problems such as:
- Worn down teeth.
- Darkened and stained teeth.
- Irregular position, for example, slightly rotated or slanting teeth.
- Gaps between the teeth.
- Chipped and otherwise damaged teeth.
- Adding volume to teeth.
Ceramic veneers are the fastest permanent correction that leads to a bright new smile.
They are made quickly, in just a few days, and have a very long lifespan.

Who can install ceramic veneers?
There are several prerequisites for the installation of ceramic veneers.
Teeth reconstructed with fillings
Fillings can present a problem for the installation of ceramic veneers. If they take up a large portion of the tooth, we cannot place veneers.
Cavities and inflammation
Furthermore, the teeth must be healthy, without cavities and other diseases. The dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and make a conclusion about whether veneers can be installed.
Teeth grinding – bruxism
Teeth grinding can damage or break off installed veneers. Therefore, before installing veneers, we must determine whether you have this unfortunate habit.
If it is found that the patient is suffering from teeth grinding, we will make a splint which the patient will wear during the night. It will prevent damage to dental veneers.
Crown lengthening
Sometimes, before the placement of veneers, it is necessary to level the height of the gum tissue on a specific tooth to align the size of teeth.
The procedure is called crown lengthening (gingivectomy). Gingivectomy is a routine and safe procedure which we perform using a laser.
Laser removal of excess gum tissue is not harmful to the surrounding tissues, it is very selective, does not cause bleeding and gives a predictable result.

Because of that, postoperative pain is considerably reduced, and with local anesthesia, the procedure is painless and lasts only a few minutes.
There are almost no obstacles to the installation of veneers that we cannot solve.
We approach each patient individually, taking into account their expectations.

How are ceramic veneers installed?
Before placing ceramic veneers, it should be established whether there is a specific reason for teeth discoloration. Therefore, before deciding on the shade of ceramic veneers, it is necessary to remove dental calculus, sandblast and polish teeth.
Sometimes, when the goal of placing ceramic veneers is to change the color of teeth, it may be necessary to whiten teeth before the placement of veneers.
The alternative to this procedure is to shave the tooth as much as necessary to remove the stained layer.
This preparation allows the selection of the shade of ceramic veneers to best match the natural color of your teeth.
Step 1: Preparing the teeth for veneers
The tooth must be prepared for the placement of veneer by reducing. How much tooth substance should be reduced depends on what you are aiming to achieve by using ceramic veneers.
For example, if you wish to add volume to the tooth, this requires less preparation and reduction than if you want to change its tipping or color.
The preparation is minimally invasive. We shave only 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm of tooth enamel. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and the patient does not feel pain during the preparation.

Step 2: Taking a dental impression
Then we take a dental impression. Based on the impression, the dental laboratory makes veneers. We put temporary veneers on teeth to protect them.
Step 3: Placement of ceramic veneers
Ceramic veneers for teeth will be made within 3-5 days. Before fixing them permanently, we will ask the patient whether they are satisfied with the shade and shape of veneers.
Then we cement the veneers.

How are ceramic veneers maintained?
To ensure the longevity of your new smile, it is good to act on the following recommendations:
- Do not bite very hard food with the teeth on which veneers are placed.
- Cut hard food into manageable pieces before consumption.
- Do not nibble on objects, e.g., pencil, nails, ice, or the like.
- Stick to a regular daily dental hygiene routine.
