Full Professor Darko Macan was born in 1956 in Zagreb. He graduated from the School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb in 1980. After four years of volunteering since 1985, he has been working at the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Zagreb. He defended his master’s thesis in 1985. He passed the specialist exam in oral surgery in 1989. His training took place in the country and abroad in study stays and courses in oral and maxillofacial surgery (Glasgow, Ljubljana, Vienna, Hanau-Wolfgang).
He defended his dissertation in 1999, and was elected to the teaching and research title of full professor in 2014. Since 2001, he has had the status of chief physician. He is the head of the Department of Oral Surgery at the School of Dental Medicine, the head of the Department of Oral Surgery of the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University Hospital Dubrava. He is the president of the Croatian Society of Dental Implantology, for two terms he was the president of the Croatian Society for Oral Surgery and the secretary of the Croatian Society for Maxillofacial, Plastic and Reconstructive Head and Neck Surgery of the Croatian Medical Association. At the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, he participates in undergraduate and postgraduate classes within courses Preclinical Oral Surgery, Oral Surgery 1, is the course leader Oral Surgery 2, Dental Implantology and Forensic Dentistry. He is the head of the postgraduate specialist study Dental Implantology. At the Faculty of Medicine, he participates in the teaching of the postgraduate specialist study Maxillofacial Surgery.
In total, he has published more than 200 papers. He is the author of chapters in several books, a lecturer at numerous domestic and foreign conferences, and the leader of Ankylos implantology courses in the country and abroad.
