At the Apollonia Dental Clinic, orthodontic therapy does not end with the removal of braces. In order to minimize the possibility of teeth returning to their previous position after orthodontic therapy, we pay great attention to the retention phase. The goal of retention is to keep the teeth in the new, desired position.
Why is retention necessary?
Teeth may have a greater or lesser tendency to return to their original position, and soft tissue pressure creates a tendency for relapse, i.e., return to the initial position.
Given that it takes time for tissue stabilization after braces are removed, retention is considered a mandatory procedure.
We distinguish between mobile and fixed retention .
The mobile retainer is made of clear plastic, is easy to put on and take off, and is worn mainly at night while sleeping.
Mobile retainer
A fixed retainer consists of a wire that is fixed to the inside of the teeth.

How long does retention last?
The retention phase, according to the clinic’s protocols, lasts 18 months. It is important to attend regular retention check-ups, which are essential because the position of the teeth is monitored during the retention phase.
The retention program includes:
- Mobile and/or fixed retainers according to specialist assessment
- Regular check-ups over 18 months
- During the retention program, any irregularity that arises will be corrected.
We want you to enjoy the lasting results of our therapy and be proud of your permanently beautiful smile!
